What is a vascular laboratory?
Non-invasive vascular testing can provide early detection of abnormalities in the arteries and veins. These tests are painless and are performed in our office setting by Registered Vascular Technologists. Lake Washington Vascular Laboratory uses state-of-the-art ultrasound technology, using high-frequency ultrasound images to analyze blood flow in arteries, veins and organs such as the kidneys.

How are vascular ultrasound studies performed?
Vascular testing is performed in a comfortable, relaxed setting. The procedure is simple: a gel is placed on the skin or on a hand-held probe. The probe is then placed on the skin to transmit the ultrasound waves and receive the echoed image. Depending on the study you will be in our office 1/2 to 2 hours. Exceptional test accuracy helps physicians evaluate the presence and severity of vascular disease.

How do I learn the results?
Detailed preliminary results will be faxed to your referring physician within 24 hours. A final signed report will be sent within a few days. Potentially dangerous results will be reported with an immediate phone call to your physician's office. Our technologists are trained to share the preliminary results with the patient. If you will be seeing one of our providers (surgeon, nurse practitioner/ARNP, or physician assistant/PA), he or she will review the test results with you at your next appointment. If you are not scheduled to see one of our providers, your referring physician will be able to review the results with you.

What type of equipment is used for the vascular lab tests?

LWV invests in the newest technology. This increases the accuracy of your tests. We have recently purchased 5 state-of-the art GE Logiq 9 ultrasound machines. The images these provide are clear and accurate. We also use treadmill testing to reproduce the effects of walking on arterial blood flow to the legs.
